Image of HORIZON drawn by Mr. Sho.

WANG MING JUN who played dizi.
DIZI is a chine flute.

He had listened to HORIZON before he actually played it, and told me "I feel the great continent of China. It is beautiful."

I was so delighted.

"HORIZON" had grown out to be the representative song of the album that, even at the meeting to decide song order, everybody proposed HORIZON to be the very first song of the album.

Thanks to Mr. WANG

Mr. Doi who played shakuhachi in Konjaku-Monogatari.

He is a shakuhachi player who had studied in USA.

He first played it like fusion.

However, I asked him "Please play in traditional Japanese style".

He was splendid!

Left
Mr. Kakehashi who played percussion in Mai and Honen-Bushi.

Above

Mr. Nishimura playing Mai by shou (traditional Japanese flute).
Tuning of shou is not 441(I've heard that tuning of western classical music is 442, where the tuning of Japanese pops is 441).

He taught me ancient Japanese music very kindly.

It is very beautifully finished.

Chinese bass used in Konjaku-Monogatari. It was played by Mr. Watanabe.
There is a stringed instrument called kokyu in China.

I expressed the tone of kokyu by my voice.

I expressed the sweet but sorrowful feeling of the "first love".

Could you feel the "first love"?

Anna Sugar who had shown beautiful singing in "Honen-Bushi"
First encounter of she and I was very accidental.

As soon as I heard her voice, I thought, "She will be perfect! She's splendid!"
"Honen-Bushi" was the song that I had her to sing in a capella on the spot when she first stopped by at the studio.

I was already creating the present arrangement as I was listening to her singing voice.

I made a new attempt, and arrange the song in my way with leaving good part of Shima-uta.

Shima-uta is usually sung solo.

I arranged that to a song with chorus.

It was her first experience to take a part in chorus.

We, first, held a pre-production at my house, and then we recorded it at studio.

Our staff was surprised as well and said, "We didn’t think that song would turn out to be like this".

I am very satisfied.
Please listen to the Shima-uta version of Honen-Bushi as well.

Different singers are singing with different lyrics.

There isn't such thing as score in shima-uta.

Instead, it was passed down from a parent to a child, from grandparents to grandchildren orally.

It's like taste of mother's soup.

One same song is still passed down to present day in different version.

Mr. Kamizou who has done the mixing on the album.

There were so many channels for chorus, so we performed by dizital3348malti-tape & pro-tools.

However, we did all the TD by pro-tools.

It was enormous work for him.

It was neck-breaking work already just to get tremendous amount of chorus to get balanced.

Mr. Sato, who recorded the vocal part.

It was only him who I worked with from August to October.

He had always put smile on his face, and worked very patiently.
